Wrapping And Painting DIY Raised Backyard Fish Pond:
Patio ponds are aesthetically
appealing & provide a natural look to your home. You can keep fish in this
pond, & watch how graceful they swim in an open space. Building your own
DIY Patio Pond can let you save lots of money. Also, building your own pond can
let you customize its appearance & size. You can decide which paint you want
to apply to the pond exterior, & whether you want to add a glass window for
seeing the fish from the inside of your home.
I already made the frame for my
DIY Backyard Garden Pond. Also, I waterproof & insulated the pond so that
it can sustain the outside temperature.
This is the third tutorial in the
DIY Patio Pond Series. It shows how to wrap & paint the raised fish pond.
You can see the other tutorials of the series below:
How to Wrap & Paint the DIY Backyard Garden Pond:
I added treated pine decking boards to my DIY Backyard Garden Pond to hide the Styrofoam & provide a beautiful outlook. I used exterior water-based Merbau stains for painting the pond as I decided to make a deck in the future to finish the landscape of my patio.
Watch video below which shows how to wrap & paint DIY Patio Pond:
It was fun to paint the pond. I
chose a back color paint for the glass window frame.
Step 1: Decking the Exterior of the Pond:
I used 90x22mm Treated Pine
Decking Boards for covering the exterior of the pond. I insulated the pond with
Styrofoam because Melbourne weather is harsh, & fluctuations in temperature
can be very dangerous for the fish. I used Buildex 10x50 mm Decking Screws for
fixing the Decking Board to the exterior of the pond. Treated Pine Decking
Boards provide an awesome look to the pond, & at the end of this tutorial,
I painted the Decking Boards that offer a nice look to the overall pond.
After covering the whole pond
with Decking Boards, I decided to cover the corners that would provide extra
protection to the DIY Backyard Garden Pond. Building & painting the
exterior of the pond was the most fun part of this DIY Patio Pond because it
overhauls the appearance of this pond. Also, it was easy to wrap & paint
the raised fish pond.
Step 2: Painting the Pond Exterior:
I used Cabot’s Deck &
Exterior Stain Water Based Merbau for painting the exterior of the fish pond.
This paint is very durable & lasts twice as compared to the typical decking
stains. I applied the paint to the pond exterior except the glass window frame.
My DIY Backyard Garden Pond looks very beautiful after painting.
Step 3: Painting the Glass Window Frame:
I decided to paint the pond glass
window frame. I chose black color for the glass window frame because it is
aesthetically appealing, & looks different from the exterior pond color.
First, I unscrewed the pond window frame, then I painted it. Later I screwed it
back in its original place.
