Will Zebra Danios Be Ok With Intense Aquarium Lighting?
Zebra Danios are diurnal, which
means they are active in the day, & sleep more during night. If you leave
the tank lights on at night, then it will keep them from sleeping.
I read in a forum that Zebrafish
are stressed in high intensity lighting. When searching for the answer, I found
2 different opinions. According to the first opinion, Zebra fish need low
lighting, & the second opinion states Zebra Danios are ok with any lighting.
In my opinion, Zebra fish can
live in any lighting condition because most of them are bred in captivity.
Nevertheless, low to medium lighting is preferable for them. If you think that your
aquarium lighting is intense, then my suggestion is to add floating plants that
will prevent the high intensity light from directly hitting Zebrafish. In
addition, it is important to add aquatic or fake plants, decorations &
heaps of hiding spots in a Zebrafish tank where they can hide when the
intensity of the light is too high.
I have kept Zebra fish with no
lighting problems. They actively swim in the light & look happy with whatever
lighting is available.
Experts recommend moderate
lighting for Zebrafish. If you keep tank mates or live plants that need
moderate to high lighting, then choose the lighting intensity based on their
requirements. In that case, I would recommend providing hiding spots for Zebra
Danios. One of the best methods to reduce light intensity is adding plants.
Danios hide underneath plants when light is too strong for them. Floating
plants is an extremely good way to lower the brightness of lights as they prevent
the light from hitting the fish. Floating plants spread out over the surface of
the aquarium water, & lower the brightness of light. You can also build
rock caves in Zebrafish tank.
