Cherry Barb is a freshwater
beginner friendly fish that belongs to the Cyprinidae family. Cherry Barb is a
little, bright red fish having a unique lateral stripe, spanning the length of
the fish body. An active, shy & peaceful fish, who loves to swim in schools.
It swims in a school of 6 or more fish. Cherry Barb is hardy which makes it famous
among beginner & expert hobbyists.
Cherry Barb is also known as Puntius
titteya, Barbus titteya, & Capoeta titteya.
An active fish that can grow up
to two inches in length. The male Cherry Barb is smaller than a female. The
average lifespan of the Cherry Barb is four to six years. With good aquarium
conditions & maintenance, this fish survives long.
Cherry Barbs need simple care
& they live peacefully in aquarium water. Cherry Barbs can withstand
fluctuations in water, & are not vulnerable to any particular illnesses.
Cherry Barbs live in aquariums
that copy their wild habitat. Cherry Barbs love many plants with a little
acidic or neutral water. Cherry Barbs are omnivores & aquarists need to
offer a mix of pellets, live or frozen diets, along with vegetables.

Cherry Barbs need moderate to
strong filtration. A quality filter is required to keep fish healthy. Cherry
Barbs are hardy but they prefer a good filter with moderate to strong
filtration. This fish makes poop, & a filter will remove the organic waste
to keep water crystal clear.

Cherry Barbs need to be kept
ideally b/w 22 to 26 °C temperature, & 6.0 to 7.0 pH. Cherry Barbs need a
heater for maintaining a stable water temperature. A thermostat heater will keep
temperature in the ideal range.
Do cherry Barbs need an air pump & air stone?
Cherry Barbs prefer slow water
movement, & they love planted aquariums. Therefore, it is a good idea to
install an air pump in their aquarium to make sure oxygen circulates in the
whole aquarium. An air stone is required to reduce the bubbling noise produced
by an air pump.
Do Cherry Barbs need aquarium lights?
Cherry Barbs do not need
particularly bright lights. However, they need some light to live healthy. A
moderate light offered by a standard tank light is enough. Do not setup your
aquarium in a location where direct sunlight hits the aquarium, as it can cause
overheating & abrupt growth of algae.
