Fishaholic provides both text and
video tutorials that can help beginners and experts to make their low cost DIY
tank filters and other projects related to aquarium accessories including
stand, lights etc. This way you can also learn setting up and maintaining stunning
planted tanks and know important information about fish species such as their
overview, tank size requirement, care guide, water conditions and breeding.
Every tank requires a filter that
can help in cleaning water by trapping leftover food, waste of fish, and toxic
unseen chemicals that can pass the mechanical filtration media but when they
pass through bio media, they are converted into less toxic chemicals that you
can remove with regular water changes or by adding plants that can absorb these
chemicals and it help plants in growth.
Filter contains mechanical,
biological and chemical filtration media. Chemical filtration is optional and
it is up to you whether you want to add it to your aquarium or not. Based on
your tank size, my advice is to add 3 types of mechanical filtration media;
coarse, medium and fine foam.
Biological filter will setup good
bacteria inside your aquarium. Beneficial bacteria can help in converting
ammonia into nitrites, and nitrites into nitrates which is less toxic to
aquarium fish and can be removed with water changes.
Many filters available in the
fish store are not well suited for your tank because of their size, weight and
you can’t modify it for your aquarium use. So I thought of making my filters
that can help aquarists in learning how to build filters at home using ordinary
tools and some basic knowledge. You can remake filters after watching video /
text tutorials on my website and following step by step procedure. Having a
right filter can help you in cleaning your aquarium, because it is based on the
size of your aquarium, and you can modify it further for efficient operation.
