Build DIY Double Bio Sponge Filter and How to Setup in Fish Tank:
In advanced technology a lot of
fish stores will still recommend to use traditional sponge filters due to its
multiple uses. However, sponge filters are also upgraded & it allows double
sponges to better clean water & there are optional compartments which can
be used to store bio media, & they can perform mechanical & biological
filtration.

DIY Double Bio Sponge Filter Setup
In video shared above I have installed a double bio sponge filter in my 4 feet tank with extra compartments to store bio media.
The size of the sponge filter
really depends on the size of your aquarium & the quantity & type of
fish species you want to keep in your tank. I have just 3 breeder guppies in 4
feet aquarium so I bought a medium sized bio sponge filter & installed it
next to my aquarium heater.

What is a sponge filter & how it works?
A sponge has pores that can be
used to remove the debris from the water flowing through it. Sponge filter
allows water to flow through the sponge & it does not allow fish waste to
flow through it while small particles can pass through the sponge filter. Sponge
filters can provide mechanical & biological filtration. Sponge filters are
best for most of the aquariums but in some cases you have the best option to
use a sponge filter. They can allow gentle flow of water. This allows for
setups for betta, fry, & shrimp aquariums that thrive in low flow
filtration.
How to setup double bio sponge filter?
DIY Double Bio Sponge Filter Setup
Unbox the product & attach the telescopic tube which is able to slide in order to increase the height of the filter. Putting together bio sponge filter is very simple. Double sponge filter is twice as powerful as a normal sponge filter. It comes with a couple of suction cups to make sure it can attach properly to the aquarium. They come with the compartments & bio media can be stored in these compartments. It is very simple to attach the compartments. Remove the filter & pipe, & slide the compartment in so sponge will filter water & just clean water will pass through the bio media. The couple of big sponges can be removed easily when cleaning the filter. Attach the hose with holes which is used to suck the aquarium water, slide the sponges which can remove the debris & connect the air tube so there is no need for a pump.
Why using double bio sponge filter is better than using a normal filter?
Double bio sponge filter which
can hold bio media works like a typical sponger filter, except there is some
space to add extra compartments which is optional & can be used to put bio
media otherwise it will act as a normal sponge filter. Double bio sponge filter
is better than a normal sponge filter because it has 2 sponges which can
provide better cleaning than a normal sponge filter. It has additional
compartments for bio media which can help in growing beneficial bacteria. No
air pump is required to operate a bio sponge filter which makes it cheaper than
other filters. It can circulate water uniformly throughout the aquarium because
it is able to push water & keeps tank warm if you have installed a heater
close to the filter.
Why I setup double bio sponge filter in my aquarium?
Setup double bio sponge filter in my aquarium
The 2 sponges suck water & then water passes through the 2 compartments which can hold bio media & then exit the filter using the telescopic pipe. The compartments are round & it might be difficult to fill them with your desired bio media. In my setup I put some ceramic rings at the bottom & then ceramic balls on top or I would have not filled the space available in these compartments. I used a bottle filter in my aquarium. In my setup heater is located on the right side of my aquarium & water temperature at the right half is warmer than the left half of aquarium which is the reason why I replaced the bottle filter with a double bio sponge filter which can push the water sidewise & maintains the same temperature throughout the aquarium. It is operated by an air pump which helps in aeration & adds more oxygen in the water which makes it better than filter operated by pump.
What are the pros & cons of double bio sponge filter?
Double bio sponge filters can
only provide mechanical & biological filtration & it does not offer
chemical filtration which is the biggest negative aspect of these filters. In a
beautiful aquarium, hobbyists do not like to add a big double bio sponge filter
because they are not aesthetically appealing. However, double bio sponge
filters provide relative simple maintenance & there is no need for
replacing media as expensive filters require. Double bio sponge filters are
best suitable in a fry tank where young fish could be sucked into the intake of
normal filters & the young fish are delicate & requires more beneficial
bacteria & oxygenation that double bio sponge filters can provide.
